Academic Services

Baseline $50/hr

Tutoring primarily in English literature and essay coaching.  Academic editing available in some contexts, particularly for larger projects such as theses, or for grant and scholarship proposals.

I can help you learn to write, research, and plan essays which better present your own ideas, give you feedback on what you've already produced, or sit down with you to talk through a text that's giving you trouble.

Note that for longer texts whether or not I have read the book will determine my ability to provide support: I'm not going to read a whole novel for a single tutoring session, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I do not write course essays for students.

I have a PhD in English Literature from the University of Ottawa, with a specialization in seventeenth-century political poetry.  I approach my subject matter as a historicist, and my research interests include religious controversy, early-modern views of the classical world, and representations of warfare, though I find little time to actively research.

I have been teaching post-secondary courses since 2013, and my experience in assistant roles goes back to 2006.  In addition to introductory literature surveys, science fiction, Shakespeare, early-modern drama, and others lit courses, My teaching experience includes over 50 sections of composition or communications courses at multiple institutions and for disciplines such as general humanities, business, environmental stewardship, and engineering.  Moreover, I have done editing work for professional and peer-reviewed projects in history, philosophy, medicine and hard sciences.

The academic proposals that I have written, edited, or otherwise contributed to have secured several hundred thousand dollars of funding.
