Woodworking
Custom Woodworking
Carving, signs, live-edge furniture, French cleat wall systems, kitchen tools, and nearly whatever you can imagine. I have several repeat clients who reach out when they have no idea how or where to get the thing.
I have a preference for negotiated designs and my own style, as opposed to imitation of others work. I work a lot with self-harvested or reclaimed lumber, and I have a 3d printer which supports many of my projects.
I'm not interested in sports team logos or things like that.
Shop rate typically $40/hr + materials. Most small items that you see here will have a fixed price.
I'm a fan of making unfinished projects for people to paint their own or craft. I will sell you an unpainted 3-legs staked pine milking stool for $30: great for kids or camping!
Please browse my partial gallery below: it's merely a convenient sample of things I've made for myself and clients.
French cleat wall system with custom shelves - this can be attached anywhere (though the strength will vary according to the substrate and attachment method) and hangers of any time can be added. Here we see some live edge ash shelves with reclaimed wood hangers, but in my shop I've made custom hangers for tools. There's no limit.
Check the French cleat page for pricing and more details.
Just a cheeky little toilet paper holder made from succupira.
A quick utility shelf with a custom removable box; here it's unfinished. This was made from scraps.
Custom dog pen. This will flat pack. You can see a few phases of prototyping on the door mechanism because the dog grew by 70 lb after she first moved in.
An example of "where the heck would I get this thing? Well, call Neal..."
This is custom downdraft box for dust collection while dremel carving antler. There's a 3d printed shop vac dust port on the back. The design on the front is just a quick chip carving pattern that I added at the client's request.
Practice Weapons for Judo Kata. I can make them in lots of styles. I'll do a set with a 100 cm jo, 30 cm tanto, and either a wooden (for competition) or 3d printed pistol (for practice).
$150 in hardwood
(species depends on availability, but I usually have ash and elm)
$100 in basic pine.
I'm a big fan of my octagonal jo design: it doesn't roll on the mat and it feels great in the hand. Lots of pistol designs are possible from the 3d printer.
I can decorate with stain, oil, polyurethane, or burned wood finishes.
Custom cabin loft railing made largely from vintage ww2 airport hanger beams, reclaimed from dauphin.
Quick media stand, custom built to spatial parameters.
My office with some of my live-edge builds. I don't really like the epoxy pour look.
Custom picture frames from reclaimed wood.
